Samuel D Patry

Attorney

937-223-0697 | spatry@kirklandsommers.com

Sam Patry brings almost 2 decades of courtroom experience to his practice at Kirkland & Sommers. He currently limits his practice to Family Law, but it wasn’t always this way. His original goal of becoming a trial attorney led to his first stint as an assistant prosecuting attorney, which provided him with significant courtroom experience.

From there, Sam went into private practice, where he focused on estate planning, probate administration, small business representation, and commercial litigation. During that time, he developed a working understanding of tax considerations, business formation and operations, and civil procedure. Sam discovered that his trial experience, combined with his background in business and financial matters, made him uniquely qualified to address issues that are often central to complex domestic cases — particularly those involving closely held businesses and financial structures.

Sam’s practice areas include:

  • prenuptial agreements,
  • divorce,
  • custody,
  • support, and
  • post-decree issues.

He serves clients in Clermont, Hamilton, Warren, and Butler Counties.

Sam’s Approach

Sam’s approach to practicing law is quite simple: provide the same level of representation he would want from an attorney if he were the client. He understands that Family law cases are not abstract disputes — the outcome affects your time with your children, your financial stability, and your future. It’s not a case. It’s your life.

Sam’s role may be to guide clients through both the law and the process, but he can’t do that successfully until he knows what is driving his client’s concerns. He focuses on identifying clients’ underlying issues and fears so he can work through the right legal avenues to address them.

Sam also believes that an informed client is an essential partner. To that end, he focuses on explaining the rules, the realistic options, and the potential outcomes so that his clients can make informed decisions. Family law cases rarely produce perfect outcomes, and clients will need to make trade-offs involving parenting time, finances, and long-term security. He strives to give clients a clear path forward for making these decisions.

Sam’s focus also extends beyond the final order. The terms established in a family law case will continue to shape a client’s life long after the case ends. He will work to help structure resolutions that are practical, durable, and less likely to create avoidable problems in the future.
